Elementary students use the library primarily as a source of good books to read. Students visit the library every other week to select a book for free reading or for participation in the Book-It reading program. We offer books at many reading levels, and encourage students to select a book appropriate to their reading ability.
Junior high and Senior high students are required to read a number of books as part of their graduation requirements. The library provides a copy of many of the books on their reading lists for them to borrow.
The library supports teachers by buying books that relate to themes taught throughout the school year. Teachers can borrow theme-related books for use in the classroom. The library also houses a collection of videotapes for classroom use. |

Cornerstone Christian School participates in annual, national standardized testing. In April 2012 we began using the CTB TerraNova 3 Plus standardized test from McGraw Hill instead of the Stanford Test. More than 42% of the schools testing in the United States are using the CTB TerraNova 3.
We acknowledge that these tests are only ONE measure of our students’ academic achievement, but they are a valuable tool in assisting us to evaluate and improve our curriculum and educational program.
The Terra Nova is both norm-referenced (comparing our students nationally and to other Christian schools) and criterion referenced (showing whether our students are mastering the National Standards), and includes an ability test and a Bible test. Additionally, tests are scored and returned in five days, and data is available on-line giving faculty easy and timely access to data. An online parent network is also being developed, beginning in the 2012-13 school year.
In 2011 Cornerstone students scored an average of 2.4 grades higher than the national average and at the 82nd percentile nationally on the complete battery of tests (reading, math, science, spelling, grammar, history and Bible) on the Stanford Achievement Test 10. In 2012 Cornerstone students averaged in the 81st percentile nationally for all subject areas on the TerraNova 3 Plus test.
Each year Cornerstone college bound juniors and seniors also take the national SAT college entrance exams.
Cornerstone’s high school students excel when compared to those in the top schools in the area. In a comparison with the six top ranked API (2009-2010 Academic Performance Index) schools in our area, Cornerstone juniors and seniors scored well above their counterparts in every category. CA statewide 2011-2012 SAT scores will be available September 2013.
